Training with Sensei Rick again in Reading. This morning we concentrated on Gekisai Dai Ichi. Sensei Rick commented on the fact that this kata is taken very seriously by black belts even though it is the first kata you learn as a white belt. We moved on to learning Renzoku Bunkai which consisted of linear and reverse gekisai performed simultaneously with a partner building up the speed and power. It looked like this......
I was taught that the aim of the bunkai was to simulate a realistic combat kumite sitation.

Today I travelled to Reading to train with Sensei Rick Mortlock (4th Dan) of the Okinawan Traditional Goju Ryu Karate-do Association.

Sensei Rick made me feel very welcome as did the rest of his class.

The students were preparing for a grading the following weekend so the session concentrated on kata and bunkai. I joined the lower grades to practice Geksai Dai Ichi and it's associated bunkai.
